Community Based Renewable Energy (CBRE)

The Hawaii Public Utilities Commission (“PUC”) initiated Phase 2 of the community based renewable energy program (“CBRE”) on April 9, 2020. The PUC’s goal for Phase 2 is to dramatically expand access to the economic, environmental, and societal benefits of renewable energy. Phase 2 CBRE Milestones and Deadlines

July 9, 2020 – The Hawaiian Electric Companies (“Companies”) submitted 1) a draft tariff for small projects; 2) a draft request for proposal (“RFP”) for projects dedicated to low and moderate income (“LMI”) customers; and 3) draft RFPs for projects on Molokai and Lanai.

July 29, 2020 The PUC will host a Technical Conference on the draft tariff and RPFs.

August 12, 2020 – Comments due on draft tariff and RFPs.

September 8, 2020 – Final versions of 1) tariff for small projects; 2) RFP for projects dedicated to LMI customers; and 3) RFPs for projects on Molokai and Lanai.

October 9, 2020 – Companies’ Draft RFP for Phase 2, Tranche 1 due.

October 26, 2020 1:00pm-3:00pm – Status Conference Regarding CBRE (2015-0389) & HECO Renewable RFP (2017-0352) Dockets

October 28, 2020 1:00pm – The PUC will host a Technical Conference on the draft RPF for Phase 2, Tranche 1.

November 13, 2020 – Comments due on the draft RPF for Phase 2, Tranche 1.

December 1, 2020 – Final RFP for Phase 2, Tranche 1 due.

June 29, 2021 1:00pm-3:00pm – Status Conference to Discuss the Molokai RFP and CBRE program for Molokai (2019-0178, 2015-0389)
