The State of Hawaii Public Utilities Commission (“Commission”) will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, 5:30 p.m. at Kapolei Middle School regarding Hawaiian Electric’s application for the PE005766-Farrington Highway Widening Project (“Project”).

Brief Summary of the Application

On May 3, 2023, Hawaiian Electric filed an Application, which was revised on March 8, 2024 (“Application”), requesting that the Commission: (1) approve the commitment of approximately $9,833,040 in funds for the Project; (2) determine that the Project’s 46 kV line relocations, as described in the Application, be constructed above and below the surface of the ground; and (3) conduct a public hearing for the permanent overhead and underground relocation of an existing 46kV overhead and underground sub-transmission line through a residential area.

At the request of the Hawaii State Department of Transportation (DOT), the Project proposes to relocate fifty-three poles along the three-mile stretch of Farrington Highway between the Kapolei Golf Course and Old Fort Weaver Road. The purpose of this Project is to widen Farrington Highway to accommodate future developments.
