Energy Assistance Program application period opens June 1.

The federal Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) application is open from June 1 to June 30, 2023. LIHEAP provides qualifying low-income households with a one-time allocation that is applied as credit towards their electric bills to help pay for energy costs. Applications are handled by each county’s Economic opportunity council. To review qualifications and instructions on how to apply, visit the website for the appropriate agency:

The Hawaii PUC is dedicated to addressing the issue of energy affordability in Hawaii. The Energy Equity and Justice Docket includes investigations into energy affordability & direct payment assistance. The Hawaii PUC also facilitates a LIHEAP Working Group with the Division of Consumer Advocacy to investigate the creation of a state Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program.
