Pursuant to Order No. 40218 issued on August 31, 2023, the Public Utilities Commission (“Commission”) directs that all Commission-regulated electric, gas, telecommunications, water, and wastewater public utilities located on Maui, or providing utility service on Maui (“Maui Utilities,” or “Maui Utility,” individually), suspend disconnections of electricity, gas, telecommunications, water, and wastewater services beginning from the date of the Governor’s First Emergency Proclamation relating to the Maui Wildfires (i.e., August 8, 2023), until October 17, 2023, the expiration date of the Governor’s 6th Proclamation, unless otherwise ordered by the Commission and subject to conditions.

The Commission also directed the Maui Utilities to pursue all available aid during the pendency of the Suspension Order, and afterward.

Also, the Commission issued Protective Order No. 40217 on August 31, 2023, to govern the classification, acquisition, and use of trade secrets, and other confidential information produced or filed non-docketed, relating to the Commission’s suspension of utility disconnections and request for Maui Utility reporting following the August 2023 Maui wildfires.
