The 4th Annual Hawaii Power Summit, “Charting the New Course,” convened Hawaii’s energy sector stakeholders on December 3 and 4, 2014 to dialogue about how Hawaii can move meaningfully towards a modern 21st century power delivery system.

Commissioner Lorraine Akiba delivered the keynote address, “Charting the New Course” highlighting the 4R’s: of Renewable Energy, on a Reliable Grid, in a Realistic Timeframe, and at Reasonable Rates which comprise the next actions and focus of the Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative (“HCEI”) 2.0.

Commissioner Akiba reiterated that the Commission’s seminal white paper, “Inclinations on the Future of the Hawaii’s Electric Utilities,” provides the strategic road map outlining the vision, business strategies, and regulatory policy changes required to align the utilities’ business models with customers’ needs and expectations as well as with the state’s energy policy goals. She also emphasized the importance of customer choice and empowerment to enable customers to make choices about their energy usage and the services to be provided to them.
