Hawaii Gas files its Integrated Resource Planning and Action Plan & seeks public comment
Posted on Apr 6, 2023 in AnnouncementsThe Hawaii Public Utilities Commission seeks public comments on the Integrated Resource Planning (“IRP”) Report and Action Plan filed by Gas Company, LLC, dba Hawaii Gas April 6, 2023 in Docket No. 2022-0009.
Broadly, the goal of the IRP Report and Action Plan is to:
- address and further State policies including emissions reductions and decarbonization goals;
- establish a pathway to increase the proportion of renewable resources in Hawaii Gas’s fuel mix;
- assess supply chain reliability and resilience for Hawaii Gas; and
- ensure customer energy affordability.
The proceeding was opened January 19, 2022 to examine the IRP and Action Plan for Hawaii Gas. The IRP process was created by the Commission out of a concern about significant fluctuations in demand and energy growth rates, rising consumer energy prices in spite of relatively stable fuel costs, the emerging importance of environmental issues and cost-effective technologies and our unabated heavy dependency upon fossil fuel oil. The Commission split this proceeding into two phases. Phase 1 was dedicated to developing the IRP Report and Action Plan, and Phase 2 is dedicated for the Commission’s review of the IRP Report and Action Plan. With the receipt of Hawaii Gas’ IRP, the Commission now moves into Phase 2 of the proceeding.
The Hawaii Public Utilities Commission is seeking public comments on Hawaii Gas’ IRP Report and Action Plan.
